How To Be Bold in the New School Year

I remember my first day of high school. I of course wanted to look good, so I put on my best outfit, put on my make up, did my hair, and then waited anxiously for my cousin to pick me up. I was late for my first day of school and didn’t know where my class was. Once I found it I realized I was the only girl in my class. Great. After first period I went to the wrong advisory because I had failed to go get my new schedule that informed me that my advisory had been switched. I stayed in that advisory class the whole time. After that I went through the day sticking close to the walls and trying to get through. Then after my last period I tried to hurry to athletics because I definitely didn’t want to miss that. Did I mention that I was wearing heels? Well, I was and I bet you can guess what happened next. I fell in the main hallway. Great way to start my first day.

I was so anxious and dreading my first day, I had several breakdowns. I wish now that I had done my first day differently. I wish I had dressed for myself and not to impress other people. I wish I had gone and gotten my new schedule from the office instead of being so scared to be late, I wouldn’t have gone to the wrong advisory. I wish I wouldn’t have stuck to the walls to the walls and walked with confidence instead of being scared. And I wish I would’ve been wearing more sensible shoes. I wish I wouldn’t have gone through my first two years of high school being so scared to be me. I wish I would’ve been bold.

So to the incoming high school freshman I say: DO NOT BE SCARED OF OLDER PEOPLE and DO NOT BE SCARED TO BE YOURSELF. You will regret it. Be you and enjoy every single second and little moment you have. You are figuring out who you are and where you fit in in high school. It’s okay to change and to be different or to do something you have never done before. I give you the Bible verse Isaiah 43:19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

To the sophomore in high school. Do not think you are “too cool” for something or that you are better than everyone else. Make new friends and be who you want to be, not who other people think you should be. We are all growing and all changing, don’t tear other people down just because they aren’t like you! You’re older you get more responsibility sophomore year. You get to drive. Live up every single moment and don’t waste away your sophomore year wishing for something else. Enjoy what you have. I give you the Bible verse 1 Peter 5:5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

To the high school Junior. This is the year that matters. Focus on your school work and work hard!!!! You are figuring out what you want to do with your life and who you want to be outside of high school. So let go and let God work. He will call you to where you need to be so stop stressing and just focus on the year!! Trust Him!!! Enjoy every bit and get involved with everything you can!! Be bold and do what makes you happy!! I give you the Bible verse Psalms 61:2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

To the high school senior. ENJOY EVERY LAST SECOND!!! Soak it all up, don’t get too caught up in the future and just enjoy where you are! Hang out with your family, go see your grandparents, go to your last prom, go do the thing with your friends you always wanted to do! Do the high school things, you will miss them! Still work hard and invest yourself into your school! Don’t be too scared of what’s to come in the future or get yourself worked up about your future! It is all going to be okay! You are not “too cool” of us underclassmen! I give you the Bible verse Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

To the college freshman, you’re in a new place, with people you don’t know, and you have a new found freedom. Don’t freak out! It will all be okay! Just trust the Lord and he will guide you! Stay true to yourself and to your faith. Show joy and love to people. You are going to find your very best friends. Go be bold in college and work hard! Have fun! And live your life glorifying God every step of the way! I give you the Bible verse Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

My hope for this school year is that I be myself, I do what I love, and that I find a new way to Be Bold every single day! I hope that for you too. In whatever grade you’re going in to I hope you relate to one of these. It’s a very cool feeling when you’re who you are and confident in the Lord’s name. Don’t hold anything back this year, go join the club you always wanted to be in, go be friends with the person you always wanted to be friends with, or go the extra mile in your school work! There are many things you can do! My advice is Be Bold and trust God because He’s got you! There is nothing you can’t to!
